Good Morning 301, we are Aileen, Chelsea, Melissa and Yun Zhen from 1113 and we’re here to share with you our Service Learning project. Basically, our concern is the build-up of traffic along Anderson Road before morning assembly, which causes some students to be late for school.
Our class conducted a Green Audit last term which involved counting the number of cars and we found out that about 48 MORE of our school mates take private transport everyday. Although this may seem an insignificant number, it is our observation that these pupils take their time getting out of their cars, causing the large jam along Anderson Road which we face everyday.
Our solution to this problem is to encourage parents and students alike not to stop for too long outside the main gate, and also to encourage students to take public transport. You may have already seen some of our posters which we have put up around the school. According to the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare, automobiles account for approximately
48% of the Carbon Monoxide, 32%of the nitrogen oxides, and 59% of the hydrocarbons in the atmosphere, while a fully occupied bus would emit only three quarters of that amount of fumes. Also, public transport is more cost-effective because the total amount of money that you spend on maintaining your car per month is MORE than your bus fee each month.
We hope that in the last few minutes we have given you something worth while to think about this morning, and to take home to your parents. A little thought goes a long way, and by taking public transport you are not only doing the environment good, you are also saving others a bit more of their time.
THANK YOU.

113 SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT – transportation
class-by-class
announcement
Good morning / afternoon , we are from class 113 and we’re here to share with you our Service Learning
project. Basically, our concern is the build-up of traffic along Anderson Road
before morning assembly, which causes some students to be late for school.
Our class conducted a Green Audit last term which involved counting the
number of cars and we found out that about 48 more of our school mates take
private transport everyday. Although this might seem an insignificant number, it
is our observation that these pupils take their time getting out of their cars,
causing the large jam along Anderson Road which we face every day.
Our
solution to this problem is to encourage parents and students alike not too stop
for too long outside the main gate, and also to encourage students to take
public transport, because according to The U.S. Department of Health, Education
and Welfare, automobiles account for approximately 48% of the carbon monoxide,
32% of the nitrogen oxides, and 59% of the hydrocarbons in the atmosphere, while
a fully occupied bus would emit only three-quarters of that amount of fumes.
Also, the cost that you spend is less too, because, for example, the total
amount of money that you spend on maintaining your car per month is less than
how much the bus fees might cost per month.
We hope that in the last few
minutes we have given you something worthwhile to think about this morning /
afternoon. Remember, a little goes a long way, and by taking public transport
you are not only doing the environment good, you are also saving others a bit
more of their time.
Thank you. (Time for FAQ might be
given.)

Hi guys! I had this oddly weird idea to suggest!
Mid-Autumn Festival, AKA Mooncake Festival, is on 14th September, I think. That be a Sunday.
On Friday (12th September), we can do retarded things as a class!
Mooncake Festival traditions are:
Eating moon cakes outside under the moon
Putting pomelo rinds on one's head
Carrying brightly lit lanterns
Burning incense in reverence to deities including Chang'e
Planting Mid-Autumn trees
Collecting dandelion leaves and distributing them evenly among family members
Lighting lanterns on towers
Fire Dragon Dances
(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Autumn_Festival)
Who's up for bringing pomelo and mooncakes for lunch/recess? Somewhat like that weird P4 mooncake celebration at, I think, RGPS. Except not at night.
Unless we can convince one of the teachers to let us light lanterns and walk around the school.
:D
(Okay. I sound strangely enthu for a weird suggestion.)

LIT again
5:33 PM
Hello!
Here's an update for the Lit thing we have to do if you're in GROUPS 5 AND 6!
This is from the slides on inet (slide 11). No idea why it didn't appear in class ):
Read the excerpt on pp. 8-9:
START at “Rev. Sykes: (calling) Miss Cal -”
END at “Jean: Remembering it n, I’m not surprised they stopped talking.”
According to the slides, we have to:
Annotate this excerpt.
Rehearse it and be prepared to perform it.
At any point in your performance, your classmates will shout “Freeze!” to freeze the action on stage.
Be prepared to answer any questions that follow (Hint: Look at your worksheet!)
Due next lit lesson, which is Thursday (methinks) :D
TO ALL GROUPS:
"Students are to take notes from slides 13 till the end on the last page of their worksheet."
Here's the stuff we have to copy:
Role:
Narrator
A grown-up Scout: provides continuityand comparison in the play because the audience sees maturity in Jean by comparing her to Scout.
Function:
Identifies and reinforces Scout as the main character
Relates events in retrospect (and in some ways, is an omniscient narrator)
Introduces background of events and characters
Function:
Establishes key messages
Builds relationship with the audience: shares information with audience that other characters in the play have no access to, thereby building audience trust in her as a reliable narrator.
Influences audience’s first impression of characters.
Function:
Shares children’s (especially Scout’s) thoughts and feelings: showing her growth in understanding of key issues like courage and prejudice.
Writer’s voicepiece: commentary and reflections on events and people.
Rmb to annotate TKMB - first half do act one of the book, second half = act two.
Okay bye!
(and sorry for only posting on Sunday D; )

LIT THINGY
11:20 AM
slides for this is on inet, 113 folder!
TKMB (Groups you were in for TKMB...)
Groups 5 and 6 attempt the question for "Group V" in the slides. Spend the first block discussing and rehearsing the group question, be prepared to present this at the next lit lesson.
QUESTIONS:
GROUP 1:[stage directions and staging]
1. How would you use costume and make-up to suggest the link between Jean and Scout?
2.Where would you position Jean and Scout on stage to indicate their relationship?
e.g. background/foreground
Left/centre/right
Lighting: dim/bright, diffused/spotlight
GROUP 2: [what she says]
1. Jean’s ROLE as
-Grown-up Scout
-Narrator
2. Jean’s FUNCTION in terms of plot, characterisation, setting and theme.
Select quotes that clearly show her function in each of these literary elements.
Each group member is to select one literary element and memorise the quotes.
Recite them to your classmates and they will guess what Jean’s function in the play is.
E.g. “This line clearly shows that Jean is foreshadowing what will happen later in the play
Jean’s FUNCTION in
The Plot: foreshadows events
The Characterisation of others: introduces and provides information on other characters, gives insight into
Setting of the play: background to Maycomb
Establishes key message of the play (theme)
GROUP 3: [manner of speaking]
Line 1: “When my brother Jem asked him why he was so old, he said he got started late - which we thought reflected on his manliness.”
Line 2: “It was Maycomb, Alabama, and it was back in 1935 when I was that girl - back when ugly words were first shouted at us - back at the beginning of an experience that brought a man to his death.
How would Jean have spoken these two lines?
Formally / informally
Pace: slowly, in a measure manner quickly, excitedly
Clearly, reliable narrator / confused
Rehearse all possibilities and perform them in front of the class so your classmates may select the most appropriate manner of speaking.
GROUP 4: [are others aware of her presence?]
If these people could see Jean, what would they say to her?
Atticus
Jem
Calpurnia
Boo Radley
Miss Stephanie Crawford
Bob Ewell
GROUPS 5 AND 6:[what and how does jean reveal about other characters?]
Annotate this excerpt. (i dunno what excerpt!!!)
Rehearse it and be prepared to perform it.
At any point in your performance, your classmates will shout “Freeze!” to freeze the action on stage.
Be prepared to answer any questions that follow (Hint: Look at your worksheet!)
Also, remember to annotate your To Kill A Mockingbird book
#1-16: Act One
#17-32: Act Two
Mrs Yap says she'll check next week >.<
Bye!

HELLO I LIKE CHERRIES A LOT 8D
Um. Anyway, peeps;
You know the screwed-up-sidebar problem? I fixed it (and used I.E., so there!). It was already fine in Firefox, but in Internet Explorer the formatting messed up. You might recall that Jiale's post had smaller font. This was because she set it to 85% the normal font size. As a result, I.E. screwed this up, and as a result the sidebar became proportioned to 85% of the main blog body's font size.
HENCE,
Don't change the font size of your posts. I edited Jiale's, which is why it's back to normal again.
Also, Xiaohan, this may seem random and kind of touchy, but would you mind just posting and not saving drafts (accidental or not)? It's kind of weird. Like, under "edit posts", there's your post, AND a draft post containing almost exactly the same thing. It also causes our post count to go up, when said posts never actually saw the light of our internet browser screens.
Ergo, people, don't screw around with formatting, don't have funny drafts, don't post completely unneccessarily, and...um, mug for your exams. Which I haven't started on, but you totally should.
ALSO.
..Um.
I forgot. D:
Ummmmmm.
OH YEAH.
Could someone STILL post up the homework? Plaaayse? D: Otherwise this class blog wouldn't be visited anymore because, hey, why visit a class blog when it's stagnant, right? And when there are actually important posts, most likely nobody will notice until a few days later.
So yeah, PLEASE? It's a lot more convenient D: And I can't do it because I am highly irresponsible. Yes.
Or our class chair could continue doing it, but I doubt she would, because she seemed so so relieved not to have to post homework for us anymore.
Hmm, that should be about it.
If you read this all, congratulations!
If you haven't and skipped to the end or your eye happened to catch one of the words (say, "congratulations"), then read the whole post.
Kthxbi.
